BACKGROUND
Mister and Misses Reeds were sitting in the Doctor's office. Mister Reeds was rubbing lazy circles on his wife's back trying to sooth her pain and heart-ache. Their first and only son was in the emergency wing being examined. Sebastian has been found in his room screaming with blood trickling down his nose and from the corner of his eyes. The Doctor in the room was trying to answer their questions and relieve any anxiety the child's parents might be feeling.

About a half hour later another doctor came into the office. he immediately went to the Doctor and handed him a data pad he was carrying.

The Doctor looked at the pad. Then down at his desk. He closed his eyes pooling his features and emotions together.

Reaching over his desk and taking the father's and mother's hands he looks them in they eye and with an almost emotionless tone he speaks to them. As from a script he has read many times before.

"Mr. and Mrs. Reeds. I am sorry to have to inform you that your son has a few cancerous growths in his brain. They are un-operable. We can care for and make your son's remaining days comfortable. All you have to do is sign these documents and we will take care of your son. You will feel no pain or regret. none of this was your fault and deep down you know this is for the best. You go home. And make Pease with yourselves."

The parents sign the documents with the doctors as witnesses. They then thank the doctors and leave the hospital going home. It has not even occurred to them that they have not said goodbye to their only child.

When the doctor saw the parents head to their car in the security monitors he turned to the doctor who handed him the pad. "Begin processing the child."

The doctors at the hospital were agents of the PSI division of The Academy. An institution created to locate ,train and hire out Adepts to the major corporations.

The Academy has been in existence for a few of decades specializing in physical adepts. Just recently they have discovered a new genome of Adepts. The esper. these are individuals with the abilities to interact and manipulate the world and people around them with the power of their minds. The Academy was quick to focus in on this new breed of adepts. (They hoped to gain control if this new commodity.)

At the hospital, Sebastian, along with all children and patients brought in for head, or psychological reasons are tested to see if they possess the genome for Mental Adept abilities or potential. The younger the better.

Sebastian was one such patient. He was immediately transferred over to a handler who took care of Sebastians pain and sedated him. She then rubbed his hair, brushing it back, brushing away his past life. He was now a student of the Academy.

As a young student of The Academy, Sebastion was given a new life. Sebastian Reeds, Son of Darren and Yevan Reeds was no-more. Kole Masters was the new student at the Academy.

Kole had his normal schooling and taught to serve and uphold the interests of The Academy. To obey the rules and to obey the instructions of the faculty.

When Kole's allegiance was set to the school, then his Adept training began.

It was discovered that Kole had one of the Lowest P ratings (telepathic disciple) in the school. He required skin contact and absolute concentration to perform the smallest of telepathic tasks. This would lower his demand by many corporations.

On the plus side. Kole was a remarkable Kinetic. He was both strong and versatile. He might make an excellent bodyguard.

Before Kole can get placed with a corporation. He needs some street and interpersonal experience. So the Academy set him up for some 'vocational education' as a street samurai. They want Kole to train in an UN-controlled environment and to get a name for himself so that the Academy will get the best retainer for his services.
